Wierd Website - Men Who Look Like Kenny Rogers

This site is a trip.

Excerpt from: The idea for MenWhoLookLikeKennyRogers.com began as an
art project. I kept noticing that a lot of older men who grew beards
and still sported longish hair began to resemble The Gambler, Kenny
Rogers. This is not a bad thing, it just happens to be the case. Every
once in awhile I noticed that someone looked as though they were
trying extra hard to look like Kenny. On purpose. I decided I should
start taking pictures of these guys and make a huge art installation.

Zardt! Commission Junction - Fun way to make money!

728x90 - Twilight Gear - Hottopic.com

If you don't already have a Commission Junction account, I suggest you
sign up right away. Not only will you have countless advertisers to
search and sign up for, you can start monetizing your internet time
BEFORE you have your blog/site fully functional.

For example - while many advertisers will manually approve you AFTER
they review your site/blog, many others will approve you just for
asking. I've been able to TWEET text links in my @MadMula Twitter
thread, and here in my free Posterous blog, I can even post banner ads
and product pictures.

I was able to add the cool banner/link above to HotTopic's site, as an Affiliate - automatically approved - prior to the completion of my applied for blog.

So, if you're serious about getting started in Affiliate Marketing, why not try Commission Junction at: http://www.commisionjunction.com.

Zardt! SEO Tip - How to Make a Landing Page

Tips from Twitter SEO guy -  @Tony_Mandarich

The Importance of A Landing Page!

The landing page is the page that appears when a potential customer clicks on an advertisement or a search engine result link; it is the page they “land on”. This page is an extension of the advertisement or the link and is optimized with relevant keywords and phrases for the purpose of being indexed by the search engines.

Think of your landing page as the front door of your business.  It needs to be easy to open, inviting and display a friendly look.  As you sell products or services, your landing page invites readers in to browse.  The following are some considerations for you to think about as you construct your "front door".

Zardt! Three Killer Content Strategies for Building Affiliate Marketing Assets

From: CopyBlogger; Three Killer Content Strategies for Building
Affiliate Marketing Assets
by Brian Clark

Three Killer Content Strategies for Building Affiliate Marketing Assets

Affiliate marketing isn’t that tough… if you’ve got attention and trust.

You can gain attention and trust through your relationship with people
who agree to receive content from you. And you can gain attention from
people via search engines because Google trusts your content.

Ideally, you want both.

Of course, there are ways to make money with affiliate marketing that
don’t involve content at all. You can use search marketing to send
traffic to pre-sell landing pages, and sometimes even directly to the
merchant offer (see Affiliate Project X for those strategies).

Different strokes for different folks… but I like to build online
assets. Building a subscriber list is a valuable asset, because you
can market to these folks over the long-term with multiple offers if
you preserve the relationship. Likewise, a site well-positioned for
valuable keywords in search engines is an asset that can bring
targeted traffic and revenue for years.

Zardt! Affiliate Scammers Give the Industry a Big Black Eye!

Article from Linda Buquet of 5 Star Affiliate Forum

Craigslist Now Warns About Affiliate Scammers and Tells Users
How to Get Back at Them Where it Hurts – Right In the Wallet!

Affiliate Scammers Give the Industry a Big Black Eye!

I think (hope) most affiliates know that they aren’t supposed to do
affiliate marketing on Craigslist. Not only is it against Craigs TOS,
but many affiliate networks prohibit CL marketing and will withhold
your commissions.

The underbelly of affiliate marketing, has all kinds of scammy ways to
try to game the system and trick CL users into pulling out their
credit card or filling out a lead form. I won’t go into some of the
creative marketing these guys do, but they are giving the affiliate
marketing industry a huge black eye. Millions of CL users (consumers)
are now probably going to link the word ‘affiliate’ with the word
’scammer’.

Clickers Are More Likely to Click

Reposted from Chitka Affilates Page

Clickers Are More Likely to Click

MARLBOROUGH, 11/25/2009 – People who search by clicking the button on Google’s homepage are fifty percent more likely to go on to click an ad than people who search by any other Google means, according to online ad network Chitika.  The study, which looked at just over 11 million impressions, shines a light on the possibility and importance of being able to predict web users’ activity.

When comparing the different types of traffic that come through their advertising network, the researchers at Chitika compared the different types of Google traffic – people who click on the “Google Search” button, people who search by hitting the enter key, people who search from browser toolbars, etc.  While the overall clickthrough rate for the entire Google-searching sample was 0.95%, the people who searched by clicking on the search button at Google.com clicked ads at a 1.56% rate, over half again higher.

TypeImpressionsClicksCTR
All Google Searches 10,307,849 97,440 0.95%
Google Button Clicks 767,209 11,934 1.56%

But the question becomes, why such a high disparity?  Why are people who type in their query and hit enter so much less likely to click on an ad than someone who performs a search differently through the same website?

“Sophistication is my guess,” says Rand Fishkin, SEO guru and CEO of SEOMoz.org.  ”Hitting enter means you’re not moving your hands away from the keyboard and likely indicates a more tech-savvy (and hence, click-sensitive) individual.”

So it appears that advertising click rates are inversely proportional to the “tech-savviness” of the people receiving the ads.  By defining a user’s tech-savviness, it’s possible that ad networks going forward will be able to target better and better, driving revenue for websites while showing less ads.

About Chitika

Chitika, Inc., is a search-based online advertising network, leading the way in intent-based advertising and search engine insights.  Chitika provides publishers with an innovative way to monetize search engine traffic, and advertisers a new way of generating leads with clear consumer intent.  Wint over 60,000 sites and 2 billion monthly impressions, the Chitika network is the pulse of the online world.  Through research and targeting, Chitika continually evolves its image as “the ad network that knows when not to show ads.”  For more information, visit chitika.com

Zardt! Status Update - Day 4 - Mission to Earn Earth Bucks on The Internet + Mini Rant about ClickBank

Zardt! and Hello to all my earth friends.

I've been really busy learning more and more each day about what's
involved in making Earth Bucks via the internet.

There appear to be three primary strategies for producing online revenue.

  • Referral Sales: Affiliate Marketing & Indirect Online Stores

(Someone else owns and distrubutes product or service, but they pay you a referral fee based on the sale.)
Examples: ClickBank, Amazon Stores, eBay Partnership Network EPN

  • Direct Sales: Websites, Online Stores, Email Marketing

(You produce, market, process payment and deliver end product)
Examples: eBay (Ok, you don't handle payment -but you handle everything else)
    Handmade Jewlrey Site
eBook Site (you write it, market it direct to customers, take their money and then send it.)

  • Advertising: PayPerClick, Direct Advertising

(You get paid for delivering eye-balls to advertisers)
   Popular vendors Adsense, Chikita

or Direct Advertisers who contract with you to pay for Constant Space (Billboard) on your site.

Start researching any one of these strategies and you'll be amazed at just how much is going on in the online revenue producing arena.

But, I knew, when I started 4 days ago, that the primary thing I needed to get going was my Twitter following first and foremost.

I purchased the program Tweet Adder and have found it very helpful in adding a steady flow of new followers. Although - unlike some, it's taken me four days to get to 230 followers, not two days as others have managed with the same tool. It's true, that I've been holding back on the number of new followers I allow the system to grab in a day, because as we say where I come from, "Zardt! No point in pushing the moons!" -

And that's the message I'm learning. Many people get into 'trying to make money on the internet' by signing up for the get-rich-quick type programs that promise $100,000 in six months. Or they 'wing it' setting up websites and affiliate accounts but never make any serious effort to driving enough targeted traffic to get any real results.

In the end (which sometimes comes only after a few feeble months of effort) they give up and move onto the next big thing. Making money on the internet, I'm learning, takes a lot of work, research, application, effort, blood, sweat and tears - not to mention some upfront and ongoing expenditures.

Referral Based Marketing

My little experiment with ClickBank has been a case in point. 4 Days, probably 100 unique ClickBank tweets (per Cligs count - although clickbank shows 2 clicks), ~75 human hop page page impressions according to Cligs, but ZERO sales according to ClickBank. Now, I'm not complaining. If I can get 75 views with less than 200 followers, imagine what would happen if I had 1000 followers, or 10,000! The likelihood that someone would click on and buy one of those promoted ClickBank products eventually is pretty high. And that's perhaps the reason why there are so many Twitter users, often with multiple Twitter IDs doing nothing but tweeting ClickBank products every 5 minutes via Twitterfeed or other API. If it's a numbers game and you can automate the delivery and you don't have to pay to 'advertise' on Twitter, and you have a big enough following - then the potential is definately there. Zardt!

I must say, however, that promoting ClickBank products makes me want to take a shower. Not because I'm trying to cool down any sort of sexual arousal, but because some of the product marketing messages make me feel dirty. Some of the ClickBank promotions are just so fucking cheezy. Worst of all - the majority of the hop-ad pages have one or two of those annoying grey boxes that pop-up and stop you from closing out of a file, when you try to click away, saying something like WAIT, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO LEAVE?.

Whenever I come across one of those sites, I immediately feel like I'm being scammed, and worry that my home url will be changed to a porn site.

In fact, it was while I was reviewing the hop-ad pages of some ClickBank vendors I wanted to place into my automated Tweet Adder  feed, when all of a sudden, a new Gray Box popped up, scaring the Zardt out of me!

YOU'RE COMPUTER HAS BEEN COMPROMISED.
Take Immediate Steps to Prevent Severe Damage.
Your computer has been infected.

CLICK OK to RUN SECURITY PROTECTION NOW

I almost did it too, until I realized there was an affiliate code in the URL and it said something like http://www.SecurityCenter.comAffiliate-0229.
I closed the box, immediately got a similar message again, and when I finally got out of that hop-link, and closed out of the internet, I immediately used my own anti-virus & spybot software to check for any problems.

There was nothing wrong! It was just an exit box trying to scare me into ordering something. Scummy!

So, I'm getting a little doubtful about whether or not promoting ClickBank products is a path I want to focus too much effort on. Which brings me to another referral based arena I'm not personally going to consider, but who am I to judge if you want to go that route? On the forum WickedFire, you'll find the Black Hat discussions around how to make money referring to/ and or making Porn, Gambling, Dating, eMail spamming, and other sin-based or questionable money making strategies.

Affiliate marketing is huge and you can even go to the Affiliate Summit and on Cruises, or hook up with multi-million-dollar gurus. At the end of the day, however, the tried and true technique for creating wealth (or in my case one day's space rations) is to have a method to delivery eye-balls to advertisers, or credit card purchasers to product and service sellers.

And that's where Blogging and Website SEO comes in. All of the 3 primary strategies above either require or work much better with some sort of traffic generating internet presence. I'm not an SEO expert, nor a web designer, but I did learn how to make a basic blog using wordpress. Speaking for myself, I want to focus my real energy on blogging. And that is exactly what I've been working on these last two days. Creating some content rich and intriguing blogs will attract eye-balls. And from these hopefully targeted viewings I'll be able to generate revenue either from PPC revenue, direct ad sales, or sale of referral products.

In the meantime, my Twitter account is growing and when the new blogs are up and running, I'll use Twitter to get the word out and start generating interest. Oh, btw, - I got a few more adsense clicks on one of my already up and running blogs with some Adsense ads, which brings my new gross internet revenue to:

Day 4 - Results
TweetAdder $39.50
GoogleAdsense 6.95

Total $46.45

So - Earthlings. This is the real deal. No hype. Just the facts. Subscribe to my blog to follow my progress and feel free to comment or ask me any questions. If I can help - I will.
